Last month, we took a deep dive into the system of gluten free food on prescription in the UK, looking at who is eligible, what foods you can get and what it costs compared to buying gluten free bread at the supermarket.
This month, we’re going to take a closer look at the gluten free bread range from Glutafin, and show you what how many choices there are when it comes to tasty sandwiches, crunchy cheese on toast, brilliant burger buns and super soup dippers.
Here at Glutafin, we make our gluten free bread exclusively for people diagnosed with coeliac disease, because we know it’s you that really needs it. It’s not for health-fad-followers or hipsters, and it’s not for Cosmo-readers or Reddit-writers. It’s for coeliacs, and only for coeliacs.
To qualify for gluten free bread on prescription, you need to have a formal diagnosis of coeliac disease from a healthcare professional. It’s the only way to access our delicious gluten free white bread, gluten free brown bread and gluten free seeded bread, as well as the rest of our gluten free bread range. If your name’s not down, you’re not getting in.*
(*Sadly, availability varies widely in England, so even with a formal diagnosis, you still may not be able to access our delicious gluten free bread)
As we talked about last time, your gluten free prescription comes as units of food, and the number of units you are eligible for depends on your age and gender. Typically, a loaf of gluten-free bread or a pack of four bread rolls will count as one unit.
Glutafin fresh gluten free white bread, gluten free brown bread and gluten free seeded bread all come in packs of eight, representing eight units. But don’t worry; because they are the same food, they only count as one item for prescription charge purposes. Fresh gluten free rolls come as six packs of four rolls, while our long- life bread is supplied in individual loaves.
While provision of other gluten free foods, such as pasta and pizza bases, varies across the home nations, all countries in the UK can get gluten free bread on prescription (with availability varying across England).
That means you can choose from the wide range of gluten free bread and bread rolls available from Glutafin, including:
From soft and fluffy fresh gluten free white bread, to deliciously nutty fresh gluten free brown bread, to scrumptiously crunchy gluten free seeded bread, plus a whole host of rolls and long-life alternatives, when it comes to gluten free food on prescription, Glutafin really is the best thing since sliced bread.
Check out our bread range online now and make sure you ask your pharmacist for Glutafin bread when you place your order.
