New Gluten Free Fresh Bread Will Be Top of the Class This Term

Glutafin’s exciting new range of gluten free fresh bread is our tastiest ever, making those school-lunch sandwiches simple if your child has coeliac disease. Exclusively for people diagnosed with coeliac disease, our new sourdough recipes are so tasty, your child will feel lucky to be included, rather than feeling left out!

It’s just one of the ways you can support them as they start the new school year, to make sure they’re safe at school and that their condition doesn’t spoil their fun. And there’s lots more you can do as the new school year starts.

Talk to the school

If your child has been recently diagnosed, or is starting a new school, it’s well worth talking to the school about their condition. The more they understand about coeliac disease and how to manage it, the safer and better cared for your child will be. Not everyone understands the condition, so you’ll need to explain the triggers, and the symptoms, to their form teacher, the school healthcare team and the catering staff (if they have school dinners).

Schools are obliged, by law, to make arrangements to support pupils with medical conditions, so they should be happy to help. Most teachers will appreciate your input to help them to provide the most appropriate care for your child.

It’s usually best to call in and speak to the school staff in person. That way you can answer any questions they may have. However, if this isn’t possible or practical for you, you can also write in. There’s a handy school letter template you can download from Coeliac UK to get you started.

Encourage your child to talk about their condition

Having coeliac disease is nothing to be ashamed of, and you should make sure your child knows that. Encourage your child to talk openly about it with their friends and classmates or even make a brief presentation to their form at the start of the year.

Talking about coeliac disease will help your child to avoid eating gluten by accident.  By sharing their story and explaining the importance of sticking to a strict gluten free diet, your child can get their friends on their team. If their friends don’t know about their condition, then they won’t know that they shouldn’t offer your child foods containing gluten.

Pack the perfect lunch

Although schools are obliged to take care of children with coeliac disease, they’re not necessarily obliged to provide a gluten free lunchtime meal. Even if schools can provide an appropriate lunch, many parents prefer the peace of mind of preparing a gluten free packed lunch for their kids to take, rather than risking cross contamination in the school kitchens.

Glutafin have always been right behind you with tasty gluten free school lunch ideas, and now with our new recipe fresh gluten free fresh bread, that midday meal can be even more mouth-watering. Don’t forget to add in some gluten free Toblerone cookies as a treat, especially during those challenging first few days of a new year or a new school.

Our new fresh gluten free fresh bread range is perfect for kids because it looks and tastes just like ‘normal’ bread. You can choose from soft and fluffy fresh white, deliciously nutty fresh brown and scrumptiously crunchy fresh seeded loaves, all fortified with essential nutrients, including calcium and fibre to support growing kids.

In fact, our new fresh gluten free fresh bread is so tasty, you’ll have to remind them not to swap and share with the other kids, however jealous they may be of their delicious looking sandwiches!

Going back to school with coeliac disease takes a little extra organisation, but with the right preparations there’s no reason your child shouldn’t be as safe and happy at school as they are at home.
