Glutafin is part of the Dr Schar group, and as part of our commitment to sustainability we have been working hard to try to improve the recyclability of our gluten free products while still keeping them as deliciously wholesome and high-quality as ever.
One of the most recent changes is to our Glutafin White, Fibre and High Fibre loaves, which previously included a plastic tray for stability of the product. The removal of this tray may seem like an easy solution, but many hours of planning, research and product stability trials have been involved in the process.
Alongside removing the tray, we’ve been able to reduce the overall footprint of the packaging itself, so with these two elements together, we’re pleased to have reduced the quantity of plastic packaging by more than a third (38%).
By reducing the overall pack size, we’re also pleased to report that we’re also able to transport up to 30% more loaves with each trip, improving our carbon footprint.
Dr Schar has a focus on sustainability, and as such, our teams continue to work to reduce the amount of plastic film we are using, alongside minimising the thickness of the film and swapping for paper anywhere we can. This is a challenge for us, as our products are packaged in plastic film due to our commitment to not using any preservatives in our products.
Any changes to packaging must undergo thorough analysis and testing to ensure they meet the high standards of freshness and quality we are committed to delivering.
By the end of 2024, we hope to have reduced our use of all product-packaging materials – whether plastic, paper and glass – by 25%.
