Tyler is only 5 so I will tell his story (Tyler’s mum)
Tyler came home from school one day with a bad tummy ache.
We went to the doctors after a few days to be told it’s just a tummy bug, so went home.
After 2 weeks he wasn't getting any better, Tyler had constant diarrhoea and his tummy was so distended. I demanded the doctors listened to me (we went to the doctors 5 times in the 2 weeks).
He lost more than 2kg of weight in less than 2 weeks, and was very underweight. You could see all his bones sticking out, he was so weak he couldn't walk.
The GP referred him to hospital for scans, Tyler ended up having emergency surgery as he had an intussusception. The consultant took a lymph node to test and ran a lot of blood tests.
After the operation Tyler was hospitalised for 2 weeks, before being discharged from hospital he was diagnosed of coeliac disease and was to remain using a feeding tube (which was used 3 times a day, as he was still underweight from being so unwell).
We are now extremely careful with all food Tyler is given to avoid cross contamination, we also try not to eat out at restaurants so much.
We had NO support at all. If it wasn't for brands like Glutafin I wouldn't have a clue what to do.
My advice to anyone experiencing similar symptoms would be to push for further tests from your GP.
