My gluten free takeaway experience!

My gluten free takeaway experience!

25th November 2011 - by Jen
Hello my name is Jen and Welcome to my Love food blog!

Over the last few months Glutafin blogs have provided help on eating out and getting takeaways if you are gluten intolerant. I am gluten intolerant myself and was diagnosed three years ago.

Since I can remember the tradition in my family was to get everyone together at my grandma's house and we all eat from the local Chinese. But since I have been diagnosed I have been cooking my own food whilst the rest of the family eat from the Chinese takeaway. This is because with Chinese food you have to be careful as most sauces contain soy sauce which has gluten in and also a lot of restaurants and takeaways thicken sauces up with wheat flour.

So when we went to help my grandma move into her new house the family all got together again and of course had a Chinese. So when they went to order I decided to go round to see if the new Chinese did gluten free offerings. Of course they didn't but they were extremely helpful! I had four staff members including two chef's looking into all the ingredients on the sauces they use to see if gluten was in them. They were looking things up on the internet and asking me questions whilst serving other customers. They spent a good 10 minutes looking for a dish for me!

So they created for me a new dish by taking the current Chicken chilli dish which used the chilli paste (that had corn starch in) and added fresh ingredients instead of wheat flour to thicken the sauce.

Now I no longer I have to feel left out thanks to Dragon View takeaway in Bolton and I can now eat a Chinese meal with my family once again!

Don't be afraid to ask any restaurant or takeaway for a gluten free meal! As once they help you it's a great reason to go back with all the family!
