Kay's Top Tips!

Our home economist Kay has been working with Glutafin for over 10 years so she really knows her stuff when it comes to gluten free cooking! With that in mind, we asked her to come up with a list of essential cooking equipment to help you get the best from your cooking and to get fantastic results every time!

Kay suggests:

• A 2lb Non-stick Bread Tin from Lakeland.
Metal measuring spoons. These help you to accurately measure out ingredients to ensure perfect results every time.
Digital scales. These are more accurate than normal kitchen scales, you can also continue to add ingredients to the bowl by zeroing the display.
7 inch/19 cm cake tins. This is the size most often used for cakes such as Victoria sponge. A non stick version will ensure that your cake turns out of the tin perfectly every time. Try to avoid the loose bottom type.
An electric hand whisk. Some mixes can require a bit of extra whisking, so investing in one of these will save your wrists becoming tired! It will make things quicker too. If you can get one with dough hooks this will help with bread making too.
Panasonic bread maker. Over the years Kay has tried lots of different bread makers, but this one always makes delicious bread. Use the rapid bake setting for best results.
Rolling Pin. Investing in a good rolling pin now will ensure many years of gluten free baking to come! This non stick type is extra useful.

These are just a few basic pieces of equipment to get you going, you may find that as you progress to baking other dishes you will need other baking trays in different sizes. You will always find a description of the type of tray you will need to make the dish on each recipe within the recipe section of our website.
